The problem

Why this matters

Every cash-on-delivery order that is refused or undelivered comes back to you as return to origin (RTO). You pay forward shipping, reverse shipping and often lose packaging or damaged stock — and earn nothing. In COD-heavy markets such as India, Pakistan and the Middle East, RTO is often the biggest silent drain on margin.

The tool

What COD RTO Risk Checker does

COD RTO Risk Checker puts a monthly and annual cost on your RTO, then scores a single COD order using the signals that commonly predict refusal: new versus repeat buyer, past RTOs, phone verification, address quality, location, order timing, order value, discounts and quantity. It recommends whether to ship, confirm first, request a partial prepayment or block COD. The full report adds a rule playbook with projected savings, confirmation scripts and prepaid-incentive maths.

FAQ

COD RTO Risk Checker questions

What is RTO in ecommerce?

RTO means return to origin: a shipment that could not be delivered or was refused, so the courier returns it to the seller. With cash on delivery, the seller pays shipping both ways and collects nothing.

How is the order risk score calculated?

It adds weighted points for signals commonly linked to COD refusal — first-time buyers, past RTOs, unverified phone numbers, incomplete addresses, remote locations, late-night orders, unusually high order values, heavy discounts and multiple units — and subtracts points for trust signals such as repeat purchases and verified phones. It is a rule-based guide, not a guarantee.

Should I just stop offering cash on delivery?

Usually not. In many markets COD drives a large share of orders. It is typically more profitable to verify risky orders, ask for a small prepayment on the riskiest ones and reward prepaid checkout, while keeping COD for trusted buyers.

Is a prepaid discount worth it?

It is worth it when the discount per converted order is lower than the RTO cost and COD fees you avoid. The full report calculates this break-even for your numbers.

Is my order data stored?

Not for free previews: the preview runs in your browser. Your store numbers and order details are not sent to our servers. If you buy the full report, your inputs are sent securely to our server to generate it, then deleted after 30 days. The finished report stays available to reopen and download for 90 days from payment, then it is deleted too.
