The problem

Why this matters

Many stores track their return rate but not what a return actually costs. A refund is only the start: you also pay return shipping, someone to inspect and restock the item, and you lose margin when goods can only be sold at a discount or not at all. Those costs are spread across different reports, so returns look cheaper than they are.

The tool

What Ecommerce Returns Profit Analyzer does

The Returns Profit Analyzer adds up every cost attached to a return — shipping, processing, lost margin on refunds and value lost on items you cannot resell at full price — to give a true cost per return and per month. It splits that cost by return reason, shows your returns-adjusted margin, and models how exchange-first, store credit, restocking fees and shorter return windows would change the numbers.

FAQ

Ecommerce Returns Profit Analyzer questions

What does a return really cost?

The true cost includes return shipping, processing and restocking labour, the margin you give back on refunds, and the value lost when items are resold at a discount or written off. This tool adds all of those together per return.

Why split returns by reason?

Different reasons have different fixes. Size and fit issues respond to better size guides, damage to packaging and QA, and "not as described" to clearer photos and copy. Knowing which reason costs most tells you where to start.

Will a stricter return policy hurt sales?

It can. Generous policies often raise conversion, so the tool models softer options such as exchange-first and store-credit bonuses alongside restocking fees and shorter windows. Test any change before rolling it out fully.

Is my data stored?

Not for free previews: the preview runs entirely in your browser. Your numbers are not sent to our servers. If you buy the full report, your inputs are sent securely to our server to generate it, then deleted after 30 days. The finished report stays available to reopen and download for 90 days from payment, then it is deleted too.

My reason percentages do not add up to 100. Is that a problem?

No. The analyzer normalises them so they share out your total returns proportionally. Rough estimates from your returns platform or customer service tags are fine.
